About

Tartu 2024 Car-Free Avenue has come to an end.

Car-Free Avenue has successfully concluded, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event possible. Car-Free Avenue is not just an event – it is a meeting point where people come together to enjoy city life and create new memories. Thank you for being a part of this experience!

A huge thank you to all visitors, performers, supporters, and partners.

What is Car-Free Avenue?

In its fifth summer, Car-Free Avenue will become the heart and meeting point of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. From July 6 to August 12, every Tartu resident, friend, and guest is invited to Car-Free Avenue to enjoy a pleasant place with room for joy and good thoughts!

Car-Free Avenue will be opened by the Emajõe ja Sisevete Festival and a grand opening concert, and the programme on the avenue will conclude with the Tartu Food and Wine Festival. During the event, Vabaduse Avenue will be closed to car traffic from the Tartu Turg to Kaarsild.

Car-Free Avenue is organized by the Tartu 2024 Foundation and the City of Tartu, Tiigi Seltsimaja, Tartu Turg, Tartu Youth Work Center, and many other good cooperation partners.

Programme and Urban Space

Car-Free Avenue is a forward-looking urban space, inviting its visitors to discuss what makes a good public space.

The space program includes a popular water games area, where flowing water, spraying jets, and a mist cube bring joy and refreshment. Visitors can also enjoy playing in the ribbon forest, climbing on the obstacle course, and riding the carousel.

Environmentally Friendly Event

Car-Free Avenue will be held as a green event to reduce environmental impacts and demonstrate that everyone’s contribution is important in achieving environmental goals.
