Tammsaare, the feature film takes us into the heart of an unexpected love story. Irma and Rudolf, two iconic characters from Estonian literature, face the abrupt twists and turns of life and love. The film is set during a pivotal period when the young Republic of Estonia, burgeoning with prosperity, must grapple with the tumultuous challenges of a changing world. “Life and Love,” making its screen debut as a full-length feature film, offers a fresh perspective on timeless themes, drawing surprising parallels with the contemporary world. In the hot summer of 1933, young Irma, dreaming of a more meaningful life, leaves the countryside for the city to stay with her relative Lonni. Irma is thrilled by the change of environment, while the city-weary Lonni sees the girl’s arrival as a new opportunity for herself. Eedi, a country boy in love with Irma, follows her to the city, trying to persuade her to return and become the mistress of his father’s farm. However, Irma is determined to leave their shared romantic past behind for the sake of her dreams. By chance, middle-aged print industry businessman Rudolf hires Irma as his maid. Irma is captivated by Rudolf’s charm and mystery, and soon finds herself unable to resist his advances. Although Rudolf swears his love to Irma, his vain and manipulative nature soon comes to light. Come enjoy a great domestic drama film and a beautiful summer evening!
