Every Advent Sunday at 6 PM, an Advent candle will be lit in Tartu’s town square to create warmth and celebrate the beautiful holiday season together.

At the first lighting, Mayor Urmas Klaas and Dean Kristjan Luhamets will welcome everyone.

For the second Advent, Deputy Mayor Reno Laidre and Pastor Silver Kurvits from the Tartu Pentecostal Church will share their holiday cheer. On the third, Deputy Mayor Meelis Leidt and Pastor Toivo Pilli from Tartu Salem Church will greet the crowd. And on the fourth Advent, Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm and Minister Ants Tooming from St. Peter’s Church will join in to spread festive joy.

After the candle lighting, a special treat awaits: “Tähtede poole,” a magical light show by Kaili Viidas. This enchanting performance blends starlit astronomy with the charm of Estonian myths. It includes bits of Jakob Hurt’s “Eesti Astronoomia,” the folk song “Salme,” and the national epic “Kalevipoeg”.

The light show will be repeated at 7 PM and 8 PM.
