Ice Rink

Ice rink on Tartu Town Hall Square is open until 1 March, every day from 10:00–22:00.

Come skate around the Kissing Students fountain and enjoy winter fun under a sky of twinkling lights.

Ice rink opening hours

Access to the ice rink is free, and you are welcome to skate with your own skates, helmet, and protective gear.

The ice rink is open every day from 10:00–22:00.

Due to ice maintenance, there will be short breaks during the day when skaters are not allowed on the ice.

Skate rental opening hours

The skate rental is open every day from 10:00–21:00.

The rental closes 45 minutes before ice maintenance begins and before the ice rink closes. Skates can be returned until the ice rink closes.

You can pay for skate rentals in cash, by card, or with a skate rental gift card.

Rules for Using the Ice Rink

To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience, we ask all skaters to follow the rules of the ice rink and adhere to safety requirements. For security reasons, we also use video surveillance. 

  • The use of the ice rink is free for everyone. 
  • You are welcome to bring your own skates, helmet, and protective gear. 
  • The ice rink is open to anyone with sufficient skills and good health. 
  • Children under seven years of age must wear a helmet while on the ice rink. Children are only allowed on the rink with an accompanying adult, who is responsible for their skills and health. 
  • Only skaters are allowed on the ice rink and the surrounding rubber mats area. Adults may enter the area only when accompanying children up to 10 years old (inclusive) or as needed.
  • Access to the ice rink is only allowed via the two main stairways. 
  • Skates may only be worn on the designated rubber mats or the ice.
  • Sitting on the edges of the ice rink is prohibited.
  • Skating is to be done in a counter-clockwise direction and around the “Kissing Students” statue. 
  • During ice maintenance, the rink is closed, and access to the ice is prohibited. 
  • Skating sessions are limited to 60 minutes unless the rink is not crowded. The rink staff will decide whether additional time is allowed based on camera monitoring.
  • Shelves are available near the stairs to store your footwear while you skate. Please note that the shelves are unattended.  
  • In case of injuries or emergencies, please contact the Emergency Department or call 112. 
  • The ice rink staff and organisers are not responsible for any injuries, traumas, or loss/damage to personal belongings during rink use. 

 

Prohibited Activities on the Ice Rink: 

  • being on the ice without skates; 
  • being on the ice during maintenance work; 
  • engaging in threatening or disruptive behaviour, such as sudden braking, pushing, shoving, or skating while holding hands with more than one person; 
  • smoking, littering, making excessive noise, or consuming/being under the influence of alcohol or drugs; 
  • bringing glass containers, weapons, pyrotechnics, toxic substances, or other dangerous items; 
  • bringing pets onto the ice; 
  • misusing skating aids or rental equipment, or damaging/removing ice rink property; 
  • using speed skates (short track skates); 
  • leaving children unsupervised. 

 

Ice rink staff have the right to expel visitors from the ice rink who: 

  • disturb public order or whose activities and behaviour disturbs other visitors; 
  • enter the ice rink with prohibited items. 

Ice rink on Tartu Town Hall Square is open until 1 March, every day from 10 AM to 10 PM.

Access to the ice rink is free, and you are welcome to skate with your own skates, helmet, and protective gear. A valid ID is required to rent skates or other equipment. For children, a school ID is sufficient.

Skate Rental Price List

Skates are available in sizes 26-47.

Rental of a pair of skates for 60 minutes:

  • Mon-Thu – Discounted price* €6, Full price €8
  • Fri-Sun – Discounted price* €8, Full price €10
  • For kindergarten and school groups, Mon-Fri 9:00-16:00 (with prior booking) – €4 per child, free for teachers
  • Helmet rental for 60 minutes – €3

 

You can pay for skate rentals in cash, by card, or with a skate rental gift card.

If you wish to pay by invoice, a prior booking is required along with written confirmation. To make a booking, please write to [email protected]. Bookings close 48 hours before the start of the skating session.

* The discounted price applies to group bookings (10 or more skaters with prior booking) or upon presentation of a valid discount document:

Up to 18 years old (ID card)
Students and university students (student card, university student card, ISIC, or IYTC card)
Teachers (ITIC card)
Pensioners 65+ (pension certificate or ID card)
Persons with partial work capacity (relevant certificate)

Skate Rental Gift Card

  • The gift card value is €10.
  • The gift card is valid from 30.11.2025 to 01.03.2026.
  • This gift card can only be used to pay for skate rental services.
  • The gift card cannot be returned, exchanged, or used partially. If the purchase amount is less than the gift card value, no change will be given. If the purchase is more expensive, the difference must be paid in cash or by card.
  • The gift card can be purchased at the skate rental counter during opening hours.

Kindergarten and School Group Bookings

  • From Monday to Friday, 9:00–14:00 and 14:30–16:00, kindergarten and school groups are given priority access to the ice rink.
  • Use of the ice rink is based on prior booking. Skates can be rented for 45 minutes at a time. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your skating session starts, as skate distribution takes time.
  • Bookings for children on weekdays can only be made by a teacher. The minimum group size for a booking is 10 children. Bookings close 48 hours before the start of the skating session. The last booking is confirmed for a 15:15 start, and advance bookings are not accepted for weekends or school holidays.
  • Access to the ice rink is free, and you are welcome to skate with your own skates, helmet, and protective gear. A valid ID is required to rent skates or other equipment. For children, a school ID is sufficient.
  • Skate rental costs €4 per child with a prior booking, and is free for teachers.
  • To cancel a booking, please send the booking confirmation (we need the reservation ID number) along with your cancellation request to [email protected]. Repeated failure to notify or no-shows may result in your school being blocked from future bookings.
